The Roof at the Durham

For sweeping views overlooking Downtown Durham, take your next date night to The Roof at The Durham. The space is open year-round for cocktails, craft beer, small family-produced wine, a raw bar and small plates. It’s also a good spot to catch some live music on select nights.  

21c Museum Hotel

Part art exhibition and event space and part boutique hotel, 21c Museum has a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. The art deco building has a museum that’s open to the public in the evenings, while the Counting House is a good spot to have a drink or a bite to eat.

Carolina Theatre

A downtown tradition for almost a century, Carolina Theatre showcases what it calls its Retro Film Series. The main stage in the theatre has two balconies and seats around 1,000 people.

Durham Performing Arts Center

There’s not a bad seat in the house at the Durham Performing Arts Center. The venue hosts live shows and music, comedy acts, Broadway productions and more. The arts center is part of the American Tobacco Campus.

Durham Bulls

Speaking of, it’s also a good spot to catch a game at Durham Bulls Athletic park. The Triple-A stadium offers an old-style scoreboard and a snorting bull, modeled after the one used in the late 80s film, Bull Durham. Premium ticket holders are allowed access to the exclusive PNC Triangle Club. The home season stretches from April through September.

Durham Food Hall

If you just can’t decide what you want to eat, take your date to the Durham Food Hall. This casual space serves up everything from salads to pizza and southern food. You can also catch a drink on the mezzanine, a hand-crafted cocktail or grab a beer from a local brewery. 

Durham Farmers’ Market

If you’d rather pick up some fresh ingredients and make a romantic meal at home, you can always head to the Durham Farmers’ Market. A number of farms are represented at the market, with fresh produce, eggs, baked items, meats, cheeses and more. The farmers’ market is primarily open on Saturdays from April through late November, but there are some seasonal mid-week hours and it’s open for a winter market.
